It is so nice being done classes in October. Life is good!
My inner foodie came out this past week! Julia, Hannah, Caroline, Dan, and I went to the Test Kitchen! The Test Kitchen was ranked South Africa’s best restaurant last year, and this past summer was frequented by the Obamas. And since Barrack is my homeboy, I obviously had to try it out. We tried getting dinner reservations, but those weren’t available until January 14, so we settled on lunch. It was the best meal I’ve had in Cape Town, and it included a course of Canadian (presumably Digby) scallops! Scallops are the best food in the world. If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would be scallops.
We ordered the five course lunch menu (I obviously also ordered the wine pairing) and it was just amazing. I normally judge people for taking photos of their food, but if there were a time to do it, it was at this place. So I did.

First course – Test Kitchen tomato, black sesame and aubergine puree, burnt aubergine jelly,
goats cheese and aged balsamic

Second course – Grilled scallop, asparagus, tofu miso suke, braised scallop dressing,
miso on toast, braised shitake, raw shitake. These were the best scallops of my life, no joke. I honestly could eat this for the rest of my life and be happy.

Third course – Pork belly (the menu has changed a couple of our courses so I don’t have the full description for this one). The little green things were some kind of kiwi amazingness.

My dad would kill for this dessert. So many variations of strawberry and rhubarb. It was like summer on a plate.
At the end of the meal Dan asked, “Can we come here every day?” It was just so good. They also had delicious bread, and you know me and my carbs. Un. Real.
But of course, to balance out my love of food, I luckily also have a love of running. And today was the Colour Run!
If you’ve never heard of the Colour Run, it’s a 5k run/walk where you wear a white shirt and people throw colourful powder on you as you run. It ends with a bit of a dance party.
Other than that, I finished my beast of a take-home exam on Thursday, so now all I have left to do is make my outline for my use of force class, write the exam on the 1st, and then I am free to celebrate my birthday, travel the continent, and enjoy spring and summer in Africa!
